The anime adaptation of "Attack on Titan" released back in April 2013 and managed to garner massive success, which spawned spin-offs, live-action films, and numerous video games. Season 2 has been confirmed, and it is now speculated to premiere in April 2017.

According to a report from Geek, the second season was previously believed to launch in February next year. However, it has been pointed out that anime shows don't premiere in the same cycles that Western shows do. If the show would follow how Japanese anime series launch, then it is more likely to be released in April.

This would let it coincide with the original launch of season 1 and the studio's announcement of a Spring 2017 premiere. By launching in April 2017, the series could take advantage of the third-anniversary celebration to further market the second season.

It has taken over three years for the second season to be released, and according to the report, this is due to the lack of content from the source material. In the years since the first season's release, the manga has launched enough issues for the studios to adapt the second season.

Season 1 closely followed the source material, sometimes even copying the same panels and angles from the manga. Unlike a lot of other anime, which create filler episodes while waiting for the manga's official story, Wit Studio and Production I.G. opted to wait, and this indicates season 2 will also be faithful to the manga.

If this proves true, then season 2 will most likely delve into the origins of the Titans, showcasing how they came about, and how they are connected to the royal family within the walls. A rebellion also took place in the manga, showcasing Eren and the Survey Corps fighting the royal family, and this, too, may be adapted.

Wit Studio and Production I.G. have yet to confirm when the series is going to premiere.
