A 26-year-old Australian mother expecting quintuplets was told by her doctors that she had to sacrifice three of her babies in order to give two others a better chance at life. It was an impossible decision for any parent to contemplate, but Kim Tucci eventually decided to refuse to have an abortion.

"I watched a YouTube video on the procedure and I cried. I could never do that! Was I selfish for not giving two the chance of 100 percent survival? All I knew is that I already love them and that every heart beat I heard I connect with them more," she earlier wrote on her Facebook page. "For me life starts when a heart starts beating and all I know for sure is that I will do whatever it takes to bring them into this world healthy."

That was exactly what Tucci and her husband Vaughn did last Thursday when they welcomed five babies into their family—one boy and four girls. The quintuplets were born 10 weeks earlier than expected at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Subiaco, Western Australia due to insufficient space in the mother's womb. They weighed an average of 2.5 pounds, according to Life Site News.

The mother and all of her babies are reportedly doing well. The parents have named their kids Keith, Ali, Penelope, Tiffany, and Beatrix. Vaughn and Kim, who already have three kids prior to the quintuplets, now have a brood of eight children.

"We would like to say a big thank you to Dr. Jan Dickinson for looking after me and the babies with such love and care. I was very lucky to have an amazing medical team supporting me. Thank you for giving me an exceptional birth!" the mother wrote.
