Authority of the Son

Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"
"My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." And he begged again and again not to send them out of the area.
A large herd of pigs was feeding on nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them."
He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down to the steep bank into the lake and were drowned

With his life, Jesus showed us the difference between a servant and a slave. A servant is confined within the Law but a Son has freedom in Love.

What we can learn from this passage is that Jesus had this identity of the Son, and knew that the authority of Satan had no power over him.

Without knowing this, our path of faith can grow weary...we battle with ourselves, we battle with Satan, we battle with the world...

Often, the first thing that often comes to us each day is not the Grace and Love of God, but the difficulties and hardships of keeping faith - so too, the first thing that approached Jesus after he crossed the lake, after he had calmed the storm, were demons. How hard must it have been for him?

Having calmed his disciple’s, he now faced attacks from the demons of that era. Can we sometimes feel this is our story too?

Having grappled with our own doubts and anxieties, having overcome them, the first thing we often face is challenge from the world. In this moment, it is important to remember the authority of Jesus, the Son of God.

With one word, Christ was able to cast away the demons, he was able to drown the ‘thousands’...what seemed like a huge army before Him, was cast away as if nothing by the the Words of the Son...

If we have faith too, isn’t this a story that can become ours too? Let us be the one's to find the authority of the Son within us and fight our spiritual battle's boldly and courageously!
