According to the Hollywood Reporter, Landau also explained in July that "Avatar 2" would have a stronger attention to detail in regard to characters and story, two aspects that the first "Avatar" was criticized for. This may possibly lead to a more character-driven story compared to the first film, which focused heavily on visual spectacle.

It was also previously reported that "Avatar 2" will focus on a prison theme. This theme may be the factor that will constrict the story to focus on its characters instead of going outlandishly grand in scale. 

However, as it has not yet been revealed if this prison is for humans or for the Na'vi, it is unclear at this point if the Na'vi featured in Jon Landau's tweet is one of the prisoners or one of the people in charge of the prison location. It is also entirely possible that the Na'vi in Landau's photo is not associated with the prison at all.

This is the first official artwork for the film that has been released thus far. But last month, director James Cameron revealed to Movies.com that many elements of the "Avatar" franchise spawned from a painting he made in the 1970s, including a blue female character and a forest of light.

"Avatar 2" is scheduled to release in December 2017, with the two remaining films to release subsequently in 2018 and 2019. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are set to return, although Weaver and Lang may possibly be playing new characters.
