The big-budgeted production that will serve as the second installment in James Cameron's "Avatar" franchise is making some progress. The progress comes in the form of the actors who have signed on for the sequel. Knowing who will be coming "Avatar 2" might give fans an idea of what to expect.

There are several cast members from the first film who will be returning to reprise their roles in the second installment. First of which is Sigourney Weaver, who plays Dr. Grace Augustine. It is unknown how she will make an appearance in the second movie, given that her character died in the first one.

Of course, Sam Worthington will also be coming back as Jake Sully in "Avatar 2." The film will pick up once again with him, no longer existing in his human form and most likely enjoying his family life with Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana. That being said, Saldana is also coming back to the "Avatar" franchise to reprise her role.

Stephen Lang will also, surprisingly, be back for "Avatar 2" as Colonel Miles Quaritch. The Colonel supposedly died during the battle of Pandora, but it seems that he is not dead after all. He is also reportedly going to be the primary antagonist of the franchise from now on.

Joel David Moore is coming back to reprise his role as Norm Spellman, Jake's friend. At the end of the first movie, Norm lost the link to his Avatar but was granted to stay on Pandora after every other human had to leave. There is a chance that Norm will be one of the few characters who will remain human in the movie.

Other returning faces are CCH Pounder as Mo'at, the spiritual leader in the first film who was also one of the important members of the Na'vi society, and Matt Gerald as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet.

Along with the old faces come the new, and there are a number of stars who will be joining the franchise as well. Kate Winslet will be reuniting with Cameron in "Avatar 2" and she will be playing Ronal. It remains to be seen whether she is a human or a Na'vi from the jungle or the reef.

Jamie Flatters is another newcomer to the franchise. He will be playing Neteyam, possibly the son of Jake and Neytiri. There is not much information about the character except that he is the eldest child.

Knowing this, it means that a lot of time has passed since the first movie. Along with Flatters, Britain Dalton will be playing Jake and Neytiri's second child Lo'ak and Trinity Bliss will be playing Tuktirey, the youngest from the three and the only daughter.

"Fear the Walking Dead" star Cliff Curtis will also be on board the cast as Tonowari, the leader of the reef people in Pandora. "The Odd Squad" star Filip Geljo will be playing a young hunter and free diver named Anoung, Bailey Bass will be playing another free diver named Tsireya. Oona Chaplin will be playing Varang, possibly the wife of Tonowari in the sequel moving forward. Duane Evans Jr. will be playing another young hunter and free diver named Roxto and Jake Champion will be playing Javier "Spider" Socorro, a human born at Hell's Gate, but prefers to spend his time in Pandora.

"Avatar 2" will premiere on Dec. 18, 2020.
