Colonel Miles Quaritch may be remembered as the enemy of the Pandora inhabitants in the 2009 film "Avatar," but he may turn into one of the heroes in the planned sequels of the box-office hit movie.

In "Avatar," Colonel Quaritch is the ruthless head of a private security force who instructed Jake (Sam Worthington) to spy on the Pandora residents called the Na'vi and their majestic gathering place known as the Hometree. But when they realized that the Na'vi will never leave the Hometree to allow humans to extract its natural resources for their own consumption, Quaritch ordered his men to destroy the Tree of Souls. This prompted the Na'vi named Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) to kill him when he was about to kill Jake.

But for the next installments of the "Avatar" film series, speculations claim that Quaritch will be alive. The character is also rumored to develop over the course of the series, and he will eventually become one of the good guys.

Filmmaker James Cameron was the one who confirmed Lang's return to the "Avatar" franchise in an interview with Deadline, saying: "Steven was so memorable in the first film, we're privileged to have him back."

However, Cameron opted not to divulge more information about Lang's return in the movies.

"I'm not going to say exactly how we're bringing him back, but it's a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who's also become a good friend," the director said.

Cameron is currently working on all the "Avatar" sequels so he could check the flow of the plot.  "Avatar 2" is expected to hit cinemas in 2018.
