Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is done with being Captain America in "Avengers: Infinity War" and him dropping the shield during his fight with Iron Man in "Captain America: Civil War" solidified that.

Speaking to Huffington Post, directors and brothers Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that "Avengers: Infinity War" will see Steve in a whole new light.

"I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity," Joe said. "[It's] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making," he went on to say.

This had many thinking that someone else is taking the mantle, and according to reports, his good old buddy Bucky Barnes will be the next Captain America.

In the comics, Steve's best pal had his run as the Star-Spangled Avenger. This was following the death of Steve following the Civil War brought about by the Superhero Registration Act.

While Steve did not die in the "Civil War" film, he is renouncing his superhero identity. Of course, he will still be very much a big part of "Avengers: Infinity War." Besides, the world will all the more need him as Thanos (Josh Brolin) enters the scene.

Also, with Bucky also known as the Winter Soldier determined to make things right after everything he's done when he was reprogrammed as a weapon of mass destruction, being the new Captain America might be the way to go.

As for Steve's fate in "Avengers: Infinity War," Huffington Post suggested that he might take on a new name. In the comics, he went by the name Nomad after he saw the other (aka terrible) side of the government he deeply supported.

"Avengers: Infinity War" hits the big screen in 2018.
