Josh Brolin recently spoke with ComingSoon regarding his role as the villain Thanos . He did not reveal which film he will appear in next but he did discuss how and why he decided to portray the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly in "Avengers: Infinity War" parts 1 and 2. 

In the interview, Brolin revealed that he was offered similar roles by other studios, although he did not specify which films he was offered a role for. Many speculate that he was one of the candidates to portray Batman in the DC Extended Universe, a role that eventually went to Ben Affleck. Things changed when he was offered the role of Thanos. 

"I was in England and I was doing 'Everest' while making that decision to play Thanos," he said, "and strangely enough — and I'm always surprised by what I decide to do right away and what you say no to especially in hindsight — Thanos was almost immediate. I looked through a book that they had sent me and was like 'God this is amazing.'" 

In the actor's interview with MTV, it was revealed that the book Brolin was referring to was given to him by executive producer Louis D'Esposito. 

Although Thanos made his first appearance in the post-credits scene in the first "Avengers" film, that sequence was portrayed by stuntman Damion Poitier. Brolin was cast in the role later and he made his first appearance as the "Mad Titan" in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and in the mid-credits scene for "Avengers: Age of Ultron." 

Thanos is rumored to appear in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," although this hasn't been confirmed. There are also speculations of him appearing in "Thor: Ragnarok" in a sequence that will kick off the Infinity War. He will be the main villain in both parts of "Avengers: Infinity War." 

"Avengers: Infinity War" part 1 opens on May 4, 2018, while part 2 will hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
