'Avengers: Infinity War' news: Jeremy Renner on Hawkeye's absence from the trailer and Ronin theories

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in "The Avengers"Marvel

The first "Avengers: Infinity War" trailer debuted with almost every single Marvel Cinematic Universe hero at the forefront, but Hawkeye is nowhere to be found. While his absence is quite disappointing for some, that is not the case for Jeremy Renner who plays the role. Whether he is in it or not does not seem to concern him at all.

"I don't pay attention to that sort of stuff," Renner tells South China Morning Post. "I was just excited that we got a trailer together and it's coming out -- that is a pretty killer trailer."

Unfortunately, the actor could not say more about why he is not in the trailer. All he could tease is that the film is going to be "big" and "awesome," and there is going to be a lot of superheroes in it. As for Hawkeye, they are doing "a lot of really wondrous things" that he has always wanted to do with his character.

"I think everyone will be very pleased when they find out what happens," he says.

One big rumor is that Hawkeye might become Ronin, a guise Clint Barton donned in the comics after House of M. This was fueled by Renner's new look while filming "Avengers 4," but he is mum on that front, too. Apparently, the haircut is just a haircut. As he explained, "Sometimes I get a choice in the matter... I know [Ronin] is in the comics, but otherwise, I don't really know anything about that stuff."

Fans will find out more once "Avengers: Infinity War" hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film also stars Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and more. It will then be followed by "Avengers 4" on May 3, 2019.
