'Avengers: Infinity War' spoilers: Will Vision die? Trailer hints at hero's grim fate

Marvel officially dropped the first trailer for "Avengers: Infinity War" on Wednesday, and the biggest takeaway is death. With an enemy as powerful as Thanos (Josh Brolin), pretty much anyone can bite the dust in the war. However, out of all the characters in the film, the Mad Titan's arrival does not bode well the most for Paul Bettany's Vision.

Vision derives his powers from one of the Infinity Stones, the Mind Stone, which Thanos has been trying to collect since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). If Brolin's character completes the Infinity Gauntlet, which is likely to happen in the film, he will eventually have to rip the stone out of Vision's forehead, possibly killing the character.

In the recently released trailer, fans can see a glimpse of this confrontation, although it is not with the Mad Titan himself. Two mysterious characters, probably members of the Black Order, attack the android Avenger and steal the Mind Stone from his head. As Vision screams in agony, Thanos is heard saying in the background: "Fun isn't something one considers when balancing the universe."

It remains to be seen what makes of Vision -- whether he will die or just lose his humanity -- if and when Thanos successfully obtains the gem. However, he is not the only Avenger fans should be worried about.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) seems to be in trouble as well. As reported earlier, the trailer confirms he took the Tesseract from Odin's (Anthony Hopkins) vault, while helping Thor (Chris Hemsworth) fulfill Ragnarok in "Thor: Ragnarok" as he hands the mystical cube to someone in the "Infinity War" trailer.

It is unclear if he again betrays everyone or is simply buying time for the Avengers to attack. However, Screen Rant predicts Thanos will kill him, too, either out of spite for losing it in the first "Avengers" film or because the Mad Titan realizes he is just being tricked.

Other heroes likely to die as well in the film are heavy-hitters Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). "Infinity War" would not likely sell audiences unless it features a major casualty. Assuming they are really including one in the film, there is no riper for the chopping block than these characters. Plus, both Evans and Downey have hemmed and hawed long enough about their future in the MCU. With their contracts expiring soon as well, it would not be a surprise to see both or either one of their characters dies on screen.

Fans can only keep their fingers crossed for now and wait for the movie's premiere. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, "Avengers: Infinity War" premieres on May 4, 2018.
