'Avengers: Infinity War' spoilers: Winter Soldier confirmed to return

Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka Winter SoldierMarvel Studios

"Avengers: Infinity War" has been set to be just one film as the second film will be given a new title soon. Despite the title change, the film will still include a lot of superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, it will also bring back Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier.

The report states that the actor will begin filming his scenes for the movie early next year. It is further stated that Stan is contracted for 9 films in the MCU and as of this point has already appeared in four films and his appearance in "Avengers: Infinity War" will mark his fifth.

As stated by Screen Rant, this comes as a twist given that in the ending of "Captain America: Civil War" Barnes considered himself too much a danger even to his allies since he could still be manipulated if an enemy knew the right keywords that could allow them to mind-control Barnes and make them do whatever they wanted.

Due to this, Barnes allowed T'Challa aka the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) to keep Barnes in a cryostasis chamber until he could be cured of the mind control affects.

The AV Club reports that it is possible Barnes will only appear in "Avengers: Infinity War" through a flashback sequence but there is always the possibility that the scientists of Wakanda have developed a way to cure Barnes' mind as well as replace his metallic arm, which was destroyed in "Captain America: Civil War."

Screen Rant reports that if Barnes does return this might be the cause of tension between some of the heroes, particularly with Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) given that it was revealed Barnes was responsible for the death of Tony's parents.

"Avengers: Infinity War" opens in theaters on May 4, 2018.
