Avril Lavigne confirms prayer request for her health was NOT for a stint in rehab
Avril Lavigne has taken to Twitter to slam rumours that she had been suffering from depression and addiction and had gone to rehab.
The Canadian singer-songwriter tweeted on Tuesday night, "The rehab RUMORS are hilarious! The only thing I'm addicted to right now is Bing Crosby. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! [And] to all a goodnight!"
Last week, Star Magazine reported that Lavigne had a stint in rehab after experiencing marital issues with husband and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
A source told the magazine, "The buzz in her inner circle is that she's been in rehab for depression and substance abuse issues.
"Avril was an emotional wreck over her marital problems, and she turned to partying to deal with the pain."
Earlier in December, before the rehab rumours surfaced, the punk star sent a direct message to a Twitter fan wherein she explained why she has not been seen in public since September.
Lavigne said in the Twitter exchange, "I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them (know) why I have been absent. I'm torn as I'm quite private.
"I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."
Fans were quick to respond to the "Sk8er Boi" singer's request. Well wishes and words of support, hashtagged #GetWellSoonAvril and #PrayForAvril, soon abounded.
A representative for Lavigne confirmed that the Twitter exchange was authentic but did not disclose the performer's health problems. The representative also confirmed that the pop star is not pregnant.
On December 12, Lavigne took to Twitter again to thank her fans.
She posted, "Thank you to all the fans for the sweet get well messages and all the tweets. I appreciate the lovely notes and well wishes from everyone."
While her health issues remain unknown, Lavigne has shown that she is still up for some holiday cheer. The 30-year-old artist recently took the time to post her Christmas cards on Twitter.
