Edgar Wright's "Baby Driver" was one of this year's surprise cultural smash. Grossing $226 million worldwide and scoring 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, naturally, a deal for its sequel is already being hammered out with Sony. While Wright's return to the director's chair is still unconfirmed, he revealed that he does plan to write the screenplay.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Wright confirmed Sony wants another "Baby Driver" film and that discussion about it is already ongoing. Although uncertain about his involvement, he said he will at least write a second one.

"I've definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it's the next movie, I don't know. I'm just working that out at the moment, actually," he shared.

Wright made no specific mention of what the film would be about, but he already gave his pitch once on an episode of The Empire Film Podcast back in July. Unlike most sequels, Wright thought there is somewhere more to go in terms of the characters.

For Ansel Elgort's Baby, his idea would be to subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so that he is no longer the apprentice. In other words, he will be his own criminal boss and organize his own heists.

Of course, nothing is in stone, and even if the sequel is greenlit, this may not be the next film fans would see from Wright. The filmmaker noted that he has a couple of projects in development at the moment, so "Baby Driver 2" may not necessarily be the next in line to premiere. Regardless, he wants to release another film soon.

"I would like to get back on the saddle very shortly," Wright said, recalling there was a four-year gap between his last film, "The World's End" and "Baby Driver." "I don't want it to be that long again. I would love to have a film out in the next two years."
