Baptist denominations move towards merger
A decision was made at a recent meeting of the Baptist Union of Wales English Council to explore unifying with the various Welsh associations that are part of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
Commenting on this decision, Rev Peter Thomas General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Wales said: “The prospect of an integrated Baptist family in Wales, being able to stimulate and enthuse its member churches by providing a platform for a more effective witness and able to facilitate a better understanding of the needs of our churches and of the goals to be realised would be both innovative and exciting."
He said the vision was for a "unified" and "bilingual" Baptist family "not concerned with establishing power bases, but together striving to glorify Christ Jesus as Lord".
He assured that there would be a "healthy diversity" and room for freedom of expression as brothers and sisters in Christ.
“The Council were encouraged by the journey that we have taken together during these past years, sharing in joint ministerial initiatives, in producing new resources and gathering together for our annual conference – ‘The Baptist Assembly in Wales’," he continued.
“We now feel the need to consolidate this relationship in order to move the process forward and to invite your response.”
