Warner Bros. has confirmed that an upcoming "Batman" movie is in the works and it will star Ben Affleck. He will also be directing the next stand-alone DC superhero film.

According to Variety, Kevin Tsujihara, the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment, confirmed Affleck's roles in the upcoming film on Tuesday, during the ongoing CinemaCon 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. While he shared very little about the upcoming movie, he did confirm that it is one of the 10 DC Comics movie adaptations that are planned to be released in the next five years. He also mentioned the US$166.1 million opening weekend achievement of the " Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie, where Affleck wore the Batsuit for the first time.

"It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020. I'm also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie," The Guardian quotes Tsujihara as saying.

Affleck was present at the CinemaCon 2016, but he did not give further details about his solo movie. Many have praised the actor for his role as Batman, but not that much else about the film in general. Critics gave the movie generally negative reviews but that did not stop it from passing the US$500 million mark worldwide within a week after its release.

Back in July 2015, The Hollywood Reporter already stated that Batman will have a solo movie and Affleck will star in it, aside from directing it. This was reportedly a condition when the A-lister actor signed up as Bruce Wayne back in 2013.

The other Warner Bros. DC movies that are in store for the viewing public are "Suicide Squad," "Wonder Woman," "Justice League: Part One," "Justice League: Part Two," "Aquaman," "Cyborg," "Green Lantern," and "The Flash." Affleck will also star as the Caped Crusader in both "Justice League" movies.

The "Batman" movie is expected to be released by 2018 or 2019.
