'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' news: Reviews help film haul record-breaking $424 million at global box office?

Movie critics seem to have disemboweled the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie days before it was scheduled to hit theaters. However, when the film started playing, it was a different story. The movie performed very well on its opening day and is still doing great, and is currently enjoying US$424.1 million in global sales.

According to Box Office Mojo, it is currently estimated that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" made a little over US$82 million on its opening day and is currently holding the fourth position, beating "Jurassic World" with its almost US$82 million and "Marvel's The Avengers " with its US$81 million. However, It failed to topple "Avengers: Age of Ultron" with US$84 million, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" with US$91 million and way too far from the top, occupied by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with US$ 119 million.

Domestically, the movie dominated the Easter box office with its US$170.1 million that has triggered a new record for the month of March.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is also performing well against other movies. It is in the 16th placed for the top movies for the past 365 days, placed fourth for opening day gross, another fourth place for single-day gross and single-day Friday gross, and ninth for single day Saturday gross.

The movie is also on the number four spot for Worldwide opening records, beating "Furious 7," ranked fifth; "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," ranked sixth; and "Marvel's The Avengers," at number seven. On top of it are "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," "Jurassic World," and at the top of the list, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Variety has rounded up a few of the critics who threw stones at "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," comments that came from A.O. Scott, from The New York Times, Joe Morgenstern from the Wall Street Journal and Joshua Rothkopf from Time Out. However, the report added that the time has changed in America, when critics, who are responsible for reviewing films for its good and bad points, are now being handed over to wire-services and bloggers, who are said to have de-professionalized the practice.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The movie was directed by Zack Snyder, who also directed "300: Rise of an Empire," "Man of Steel," and "Sucker Punch." His next projects are "Suicide Squad" as executive producer, "Wonder Woman" as producer, "The Flash" as executive producer, "Aquaman" as producer, and "Justice League" parts 1 and 2 as director. He is also writing the last two films mentioned.
