"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has thus far managed to earn over $700 million worldwide but its weekly box office continues to plummet with each passing day and both professional and audience reviews of the film have not been favorable. According to a report from Variety, this has caused Warner Bros. to rethink their approach regarding future DCEU films.

The previous approach was to allow each director their own space to do their thing with the films, but with the descending box office performance of "Batman v Superman," the studio is now going to take a more "hands-on" approach with future films. The initial idea was for Geoff Johns, who oversees much of the DCEU from the films to the TV shows, to take on this role.

However, Johns is reportedly too busy handling too many projects at once. At Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige is the man in charge of overseeing all of the Marvel movies, and through a concentrated vision, the films from Marvel have maintained a consistent level of quality.

In order to do this, the report explains that executive producer Jon Berg and Jeff Bewkes, the CEO of Time-Warner, will be overseeing all future DCEU films from this point on. Warner Bros. Pictures is also cancelling several film projects in order to bank solely on established franchises such as the DCEU, "Harry Potter" spin-offs and "Lego" films. 

The report points out that the studios are still in need of someone who is well-versed in both film production and the DC universe, akin to Johns. It is undetermined at this point if Johns will be dropping some of his film and comic book duties in order to focus solely on the movies.

The next films in the DCEU will be "Suicide Squad," premiering on Aug. 5, and "Wonder Woman," which will be released on June 2, 2017.
