The ending of 2013's "Man of Steel" was quite controversial at the time of release. Although Superman (Henry Cavill) was able to stop the Kryptonians from destroying the planet, almost half of the city of Metropolis was destroyed. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Zack Snyder explained that this will play a part in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." 

"I was surprised because that's the thesis of Superman for me," Snyder explained, "that you can't just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences."

There was always the intention of letting the dead bodies be counted and for the damages to be noticed because they will be addressed in the next film. He continued to state that Superman's mistakes, from causing city-wide destruction to killing General Zod, will help shape him to become the more responsible hero fans are familiar with. 

However, it is because of these mistakes that he comes face to face with Bruce Wayne aka Batman (Ben Affleck). Affleck addressed this in the EW interview and stated that one of the buildings destroyed during the "Man of Steel" finale was a Wayne Enterprise building. 

Affleck said that Wayne knew some of the people who worked and died in that building and that he blames Superman's recklessness for their death. The actor also gives a name to the catastrophic event in "Man of Steel" by dubbing it the "Black Zero" event, which is presumed to be the moniker used in "Batman v Superman" as well. 

This would mean that Batman isn't just hunting down Superman because he thinks the latter is irresponsible and could one day become a fascist dictator to mankind, but also because of a personal vendetta. The death of hundreds or even thousands of people needs to be addressed and Batman is the one who will deliver that message to the Man of Steel. 

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
