Fans of war-themed first-person shooters (FPS) will be glad to know that "Battalion 1944," a crowdfunded World War 2 multi-shooter game will be unveiled as an early access title next year. In addition, creator Bulkhead Interactive recently released a new "pre-announcement" trailer featuring behind-the-scenes footage, along with the game's release date, Jan. 9.

The trailer mainly shows clips of the game interspersed with footage of the development team behind "Battalion 1944." They mostly discuss their inspiration, challenges, and journey while making the game, especially how they tried to capture the brutality of war. According to them, the upcoming FPS is likely the best shooter title of the year, as it combines a classic theme with modern game designs.

In the latter half of the trailer, the five-minute video takes on a more somber note. Joe Brammer, Studio Lead for the game, revealed how the project and community helped him get through a tough experience in his life. Apparently, while they were developing "Battalion 1944," his daughter died 2 hours after being born. He narrated that after he came back, the community kept him going by sending him encouraging messages.

According to PC Gamer, the game will be released on early access shortly after the official trailer is unveiled on Jan. 9. The game will be available for only $14.99, which is less than the smallest pledge they received. This price will supposedly remain unchanged for one year, but it might increase after the game is fully released. Players who do get the early access title will get some rewards, as mentioned on the game's official Steam page.

"Battalion 1944 will retail for a cheaper entry price during Early Access with the intent to raise the price at full release. This is to reward and encourage those who invest in Battalion for the long-term during Early Access. All extra DLC content will be free."

More gameplay details are expected to be revealed in the official trailer next year. "Battalion 1944" is set to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
