'Battleborn' DLC and season pass details announced

"Battleborn," from the same developers that made "Borderlands," will launch with 25 characters when the game is released for the PS4, Xbox One and PC this May. But fans can now expect that roster to grow as developer Gearbox has released the details regarding their DLC and season pass plans.

According to the game's official site, five new characters will be added after launch entirely for free. At the time of writing, only one of the free characters has been detailed, a healer-turned-warrior known as Alani. Alani can heal her fellow Battleborn but is also capable of defeating enemies by manipulating water.

Gearbox continues to explain that other free updates such as maps, balance and bug fixes and new game modes will be given post-launch.

Not everything will be free, however, as Gearbox does reveal there will be paid DLC packs in the future, with a total of five packs planned. Each pack can be bought individually for $4.99 each or a player can purchase the season pass, which will grant access to each DLC as they become available, for only $20.

Each DLC pack will come with one Story Campaign, which can be played solo, along with new hero skins and taunts.

Players can also avail of the Deluxe Edition, which will cost $74.99. This edition will come with the base game, access to all five DLC packs and free cosmetic items. Gearbox has stated that additional cosmetic items will be sold separately, although a final list of prices for these aesthetic augmentations has yet to be finalized.

According to the developers, these will include new hero skins and taunts, akin to the MOBA genre that "Battleborn" borrows heavily from, and that many of these may be offered through the in-game store while others will be purchased through Gearbox's website.

"Battleborn" will launch for the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC on May 3.
