'Battlefield 5' rumors: DICE upgrading Frostbite for upcoming shooter

"Battlefield 5" will see massive upgrades over "Battlefield 4 Hardline," thanks to Frostbite.EA DICE

A job listing by developer DICE suggests that "Battlefield 5" will be the most technologically advanced title using Frostbite Engine. DICE appears to be working on making the most out of the game engine.

The aspirant, who is believed to be going to help in putting together "Battlefield 5," is tasked to "work on a game team at DICE to plan, implement and evaluate a system for computing optimal view distances for mesh LOD transition."

"The work will be carried out in the Frostbite game engine and the goal is to accelerate the current workflow, to improve image stability and to get more optimal LOD distances from a performance perspective," DICE further elaborated.

Although there's no mention of "Battlefield 5," Segment Next says that the Frostbite engine DICE is looking to improve will be used in creating the shooter. This means that improvements on the engine will certainly reflect on the new "Battlefield" game.

Gamingbolt also believes that DICE is polishing Frostbite for "Battlefield 5," but the site says that it could also mean that this is simply the game studio's way to keep the engine in great shape and on par with other game engines.

Previous rumors regarding "Battlefield 5" suggest that the upcoming game will be set in World War 1 or World War 2. Leaks claim it will be subtitled "Eastern Front," in reference to its setting.

Another report suggests that the fifth title in the beloved "Battlefield" franchise will be released to the Nintendo NX – both of which are expected to launch later this year.

Although no official details could confirm the rumors at the moment, what's clear, based on DICE's job listing, is that they are hard at work in making Frostbite engine better. This effort will certainly show in "Battlefield 5" when it all comes together.

With no updates being released for "Battlefield 4 Hardline," it is safe to say, DICE's attention is now on "Battlefield 5."
