Among the most-anticipated action titles of 2018, the yet-to-be-named "Battlefield" game is making rounds on the interwebs again for rumors that suggest it will be set in World War II -- a possible follow-up to 2016's critically acclaimed "Battlefield 1: Bad Company," which took players back to World War I.

According to recent reports, a former employee of DICE, the primary developer of the "Battlefield" franchise, named Peter Olofsson Hermanrud, posted images of his portfolio to the art curating site ArtStation. 

Hermanrud's curated photos are a compilation of guns that includes an armament called PPSh-41. GamePur claims that this particular weapon cannot be traced to any of the past titles in the "Battlefield" series nor does it appear in the latest installment set in World War I.

Further research on the weapon's origins reveal that the PPSh-41 is a soviet gun that was used predominantly during the second World War.

This information led some to believe that "Battlefield's" next game will be set in the bloody era of World War II.

Although this might be a strong indication to what awaits the next "Battlefield" title, GamingBolt argues that none of this is officially confirmed by Electronic Arts (EA) so, fans should not take this particular report to heart. The game website also advises users and players to wait for official announcements coming from the developers themselves --which, they say, will be soon.

Currently, EA has yet to issue any official announcement regarding the premise of the next installment to the "Battlefield" franchise. But in recent updates, EA has set a window release date for the new installment, which is October of this year.

As per other details, some suggest that EA will likely unveil a preview for this new "Battlefield" game during E3 2018.
