A tweet from The Wall Street Journal video game reporter, Sarah E. Needleman, on Jan. 30 confirmed the news. According to her tweet, EA will launch a new "Battlefield" game in October. The new game is also the reason why EA changed the official release date of the multi-player action game "Anthem" developed by BioWare from fall 2018 to early 2019. EA believes it is not beneficial for both games to be released at the same time, choosing to launch "Anthem" at a later time.

At the moment, EA has not issued an official statement on the release of the game. Assuming EA will take the same steps it had taken for previous "Battlefield" editions, it will likely formally announce the game by Mayor June.

The details on what the theme of the upcoming video game will be are being kept under wraps. Some fans are speculating that it will be an expansion of 2016's "Battlefield 1" which was based on World War I. Eurogamer, on the other hand, speculates that the new "Battlefield will be a follow-up to "Battlefield 1" and will focus on World War II instead. Den of Geek is anticipating the game to be a revisit of 2004's "Battlefield Vietnam" which was based on the Vietnam War.

While most fans believe that the upcoming video game will be set in the past, Den of Geek also speculates that the game will be based on the modern age of combat. Others entertain the possibility that the upcoming "Battlefield" will be set far in the future instead. One thing is certain, the release of the upcoming game in October will determine whether these speculations are correct.
