'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers: EPs tease how Gus Fring will be brought into the mix

At some point in "Better Call Saul" season 3, the show will feature "Breaking Bad" baddie Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) in some shape or form.

Executive producers Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan spoke about their approach in bringing the drug kingpin back in "Better Call Saul" season 3 during an interview with Digital Trends.

Gilligan explained that, as of right now, it would be "inorganic" to bring Gus Fring into the fold this early in "Better Call Saul."

Gould said that it is all about following the logic of the parent series and using it as the guide. This means that certain characters will appear when it is time for them to appear.

"Overall, the guideline that has always served us well is we try to be true to the characters — who they are and why they're doing what they're doing, and to never proceed until we have a good understanding of that," Gould said.

"We try to let the characters be our guide, as opposed to pushing them around like chess pieces," he went on to say about bringing "Breaking Bad" characters to "Better Call Saul."

Gould said that it is all about how "one thing leads to another." This suggests that for Gus Fring to turn up in "Better Call Saul" season 3, something has to happen first that will make sense of his presence.

The EPs have said before that the nature of Esposito's character calls for him not to immediately show his face, even to the people he closely deals with.

This will be at play in "Better Call Saul" season 3, which means that should Gus Fring turn up, it might be a while before that will happen.

The moment he arrives, however, things will be different for both Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) and Mike (Jonathan Banks).

"Better Call Saul" season 3 premieres next year on AMC.
