Bible-based adventures capture children's interest

The award-winning Friends and Heroes TV series, in production since it first broadcast on BBC2 late last year, is being used successfully by many churches to enhance their children's ministry.

"What is remarkable about Friends and Heroes is its ability to tell engaging Bible stories in an adventure story context, allowing the children watching to really understand both the content and the meaning of the stories," said Alison Dorricott, Executive Producer.

Every Friends and Heroes DVD release comes complete with new lesson material for use by Sunday School teachers and others involved in children's ministry. There is one lesson for each Bible story containing all the information teachers need to deliver fun and engaging lessons.

DVD 10, which contains two 25 minute episodes plus lots of extras, covers the themes of God's Provision and Mercy, illustrated by the Bible stories of Paul, Silas and the earthquake, David spares King Saul, Paul and Elymas the Sorcerer, and Moses and the Miracle Water.

In Episode 18, Prince for a Day, lead character Macky sets out once more to rescue Daniel. Disguised as a young Roman noble he brazenly enters the Roman camp and this time, Isaac and Macky manage to liberate Daniel from under the noses of the Romans.

Episode 19, Unwilling Guests, sees Tobias convince General Tiberius to allow him to take hostages, including Isaac, who will be executed if Macky does not turn himself in. Marcus, a thuggish Roman soldier who Macky rescued, tries to help Isaac escape from prison but he won't leave.

Friends and Heroes aims to introduce a generation of children to the stories of the Bible in a way which is relevant, exciting and set into a living context.

"It's good to know that the series is really appealing to today's media- savvy children", said David Dorricott, Executive Producer. "At CRE, Esher recently, one young boy ran towards our stand shouting 'Great, Friends and Heroes, I love Friends and Heroes!' We think he is a fan!"

The Christian Broadcasting Council hailed Friends and Heroes "The Best Youth/Children's Programme of 2007".

Currently Friends and Heroes is being dubbed into a number of languages to allow the series to be viewed more widely across the world.
Within the next few months it will be seen and heard by children in Taiwan in Chinese and by viewers in the Middle East and North Africa in Arabic and Farsi. Subtitles are already available on all DVDs including Arabic, Cantonese, Punjabi and English for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
