'Big Bang Theory' season 9 premiere: Leonard and Penny finally get married in 'The Matrimonial Momentum'

Penny and Leonard wed in The Big Bang Theory season 9 premiere CBS

Wedding bells will soon be ringing as "The Big Bang Theory" season 9 starts today, Sept. 21. The show will return with Penny and Leonard finally getting married. At the end of the previous season, fans got worried when the latter admitted he kissed another girl while he was away.

Thankfully, Penny isn't one to dwell on the past. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Steve Molaro dished that Penny "thinks she can get past this" as she reminds herself how long they have been together. In turn, she is not going to let this confession ruin their relationship.

And so, in the much-awaited season 9 premiere episode, which is very aptly titled "The Matrimonial Momentum," the couple will finally become Mr. and Mrs. Hofstadter as they head out of the Las Vegas chapel.

Molaro said that the marriage, which fans waited for eight seasons to witness, is part of their plans to have the show move forward "in big brave ways." Another element they prepared for is Sheldon and Amy's breakup, which took place in the previous season's finale.

The showrunner won't dish what will become of the two in this season, but in the same EW interview, he hinted that couples go through troubles and they aren't any different. Penny and Leonard got over theirs and it will be up to Sheldon and Amy if they "give up" or "work on them."

"Sometimes things need to get worse before they get better," Molaro then said, giving the impression that fans still haven't seen the last of the adorkable romance shared by Sheldon and Amy.

In previous interviews, Molaro already revealed the former will try to win his lady back, but he will do so in the most outrageous, maddening ways. What this could mean is that it might take long for the lover boy to sway his girl, changing their friendship's dynamic in the process.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 premiere "The Matrimonial Momentum" airs today, Sept. 21 on CBS. Be sure to tune into CBS or watch it online via live stream on CBS.com
