"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 premiere is set to air next week, and while it was confirmed that viewers will get to see Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) getting married, fans are wondering what's in store for Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) after their breakup last season, and what happens next to Raj (Kunal Nayyar) after telling Emily that he loves her.

In the season 8 finale, Amy broke up with Sheldon because she thought that their relationship was going nowhere. The final scene revealed that Sheldon got her an engagement ring and was planning to propose to her.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Steve Molaro said that in the season 9 premiere, more will be revealed about the engagement ring, specifically on how long Sheldon has had it and his thoughts about it following their breakup. But while some may think that Sheldon won't be affected at all by the breakup, Molaro revealed that Sheldon will actually try to win Amy back.

"He is a man of science and he's been presented with a problem that he can't just think a solution for," said Molaro.

The showrunner added that Sheldon won't turn to his friends for support — instead, he is going to pursue Amy. And while Sheldon will do all he can for them to get back together, some of his methods will leave Amy furious.

"He's not good at leaving her alone," Molaro explained. "The one thing that she asked for was a little bit of time to think and he's not going to give that to her."

Meanwhile, the group will be affected by the pair's breakup, and that it will be "weird" when Sheldon and Amy are in a room together.

"It's a little bit of a divorce, and it's something that the group is feeling their way through," he said.

As for Raj, his fear of being alone made him profess his love for his girlfriend, and the showrunner said that in season 9, Raj will try to accept the things that he doesn't like about Emily and that he'll try to make the relationship work.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 premieres on Monday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
