After its first season, fans of "Big Little Lies" have been wondering if the show has been renewed for a second season. Fortunately, chances are high for a second season, and it might be coming a lot sooner than expected.

As revealed by a source to TV Line, HBO is considering that production for the series' second season begin by spring 2018. The all-female series recently received eight Emmys during this year's awards, like Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Nicole Kidman, as well as Outstanding Limited Series. The show's executive producer and writer David E. Kelley also revealed to TV Line that a second season was approaching its scheduling stages two weeks ago as well.

Kelley shared that they are currently coming up with ideas and trying to bring everyone back together. Kelley went on to explain that they just need to sort out the logistics. He added that he is optimistic because everyone is on board for it. He said that they felt they still have storytelling to do.

However, a representative of HBO refused to confirm anything about a potential second season. Yet, even before the series landed themselves a handful of Emmys, HBO asked Liane Moriarty, the author of the novel the series is based on to try her hand at coming up with a story for a possible second season. Even the show's lead actresses Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley all expressed interest in keeping the series going.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the only thing they need to in order to get a season two renewal was to find a director to take on the project. "Wild" and "Dallas Buyers Club" Jean-Marc Vallee served as the director all throughout the show's first season while Kelley wrote every episode. However, due to having recently finished principal production for another HBO miniseries called "Sharp Objects" which stars Amy Adams, Vallee will not be returning to direct as he may be too busy with the post-production on the show to take on "Big Little Lies" season 2.
