In the next episode of "Black Lightning," the community goes up against the criminal kingpin Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III) and his minions.

The trailers and promotional photos for the upcoming installment, which is titled "Lawanda: The Book of Burial," were released just recently, and they show the townspeople of Freeland holding candles, and marching on the streets to protest against Whale's henchmen. A few hundred people are there to protest the murder of Lawanda White (Tracey Bonner) at the hands of the villainous Lala (William Catlett). It seems that the people are emboldened to fight against Whale's group of thugs known as The 100. Jefferson Pierce a.k.a. Black Lightning (Cress Williams) monitors the situation from the rooftop of a building. He appears very concerned and does not want anyone to get hurt.

In the last episode, Whale went over to the jail where Lala was kept, for killing white. The corrupt cops allowed Whale to enter the prison so that he could get to him. He ended up strangling and killing Lala for his misstep. Earlier, Black Lightning was mad at Lala and came face-to-face with him. He took down his thugs and captured him to pay for his crimes. However, he was very close to killing him but relented at the last minute.

In a recent interview with EW, Executive Producer Salim Akil teased, "We're introducing a new drug into the community called Green Light in later episodes. It will be the crux of the season in terms of how drugs enter a community, how a community is exploited, and Black Lightning sort of working himself up the food chain of discovering where it comes from and who put it there."

"Black Lightning" season 1 episode 3 will hit the airwaves on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
