Luxury and function seem to be BlackBerry's gameplan to penetrate the already stiff smartphone competition.  If leaked reports turn out to be accurate, a Gold BlackBerry Passport will be on its way to the shelves sometime soon.

Crackberry, the fan-made website dedicated to the Canada-based mobile company, recently leaked several images of a black-colored BlackBerry Passport with gold trimmings on the side.  It is unclear, however, if the device was made directly by BlackBerry or if it was modified by a third-party manufacturer.

Though the website did not mentioned any further details about the featured device, it is believed that it has the same specs as the Black and White editions of the BlackBerry Passport that the company launched during its three-city simultaneous event held last Sept. 24.

The new flagship phone from the struggling company runs using a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and Adreno 330 GPU. It also has 3 GB RAM and 32 GB built-in storage that can be expanded up to 128 GB with the use of microSD card.  

It reportedly features a 13-megapixel primary OIS camera that has a BSI sensor, as well as a 2-megapixel secondary front camera.  Furthermore, the BlackBerry Passport features a QWERTY keypad, which is the signature of the brand for the longest time.

According to TechTimes, BlackBerry is aiming to attract smartphone users with its unique square design, which is different from the typical rectangular shape offered by other leading mobile device manufacturers. This is the company's way to compete with Apple and Samsung in the smartphone industry.

If the leaked pictures turn out to be true, this will not be the first time for BlackBerry to release a Gold phone. The BlackBerry Q10, which was released last year, as well as the P'9981 designed by Porsche, were released in luxurious Gold editions.
