Blackberry crossed the Android platform when it ditched its own Blackberry operating system (OS) in its latest release, the Blackberry Priv. The company's first ever Android device has proven to be a success judging by its sales.

So what's next for the Canadian company? Will there be a successor to Priv?

According to Blackberry CEO John Chen, there might be another release of an Android-based device.

In an interview conducted by Bloomberg, Chen said that everything is going great after the launch of Priv.

"We are making positive progress, I feel good where we are," he said in the interview.

However, when asked about the next step for the company, specifically plans for a much cheaper Blackberry Android phone, Chen only responded that it will depend on how well Priv sales will do in the coming months.

More interestingly, Chen gave a timeline for it and revealed that a new phone, most probably belonging to the mid-range category, is likely to come in 2016 if Priv continues to be received well in three to four months' time.

With Chen's response, could it mean that the rumored phone dubbed as Vienna will be Priv's successor?

Rumors about the next Android-based Blackberry surfaced last month and Crackberry shared some of the images of the phone's purported design.

As opposed to the sliding keyboard found in Priv, the Vienna is said to have a physical keyboard permanently located in front. The design and size of the keyboard may also copy that of Priv's.

Reports didn't give a lot of details about the rumored device and there was no mention of the specs. However, according to Geeky Gadgets, the Vienna will not follow Priv in its shadow as a high-end device, but will most likely belong to the mid-range category.

In the meantime, Blackberry fans should wait for further announcement from the company.
