The first software update for the BlackBerry Priv has now been released.

The update is now available as an over-the-air download for those who bought their BlackBerry Priv units through ShopBlackBerry. For those who have purchased the new smartphone through carriers, the software update will become available beginning Monday, according to NDTV.

BlackBerry is introducing a good amount of fixes and tweaks in what will apparently be the first of many updates for the Priv. Previously, the company has promised to provide monthly security updates for the smartphone in order to keep it as secure as possible, although it is worth noting that this particular release contains more than just that.

Among the changes coming via the first update for the BlackBerry Priv are tweaks designed to help improve the overall functionality of its camera. According to the official BlackBerry blog, the changes in this regard should help improve the speed of the phone's camera. The tweaks are also expected to make a difference in terms of the camera's performance in situations wherein there is very little lighting available.

Performance and stability fixes are also coming via the first software update headed to the BlackBerry Priv. Some users have also reported instances of the phone suddenly crashing and freezing, and the hope is that the update will finally get rid of that issue.

The update is simple enough to get, according to a guide published by CNet.

BlackBerry Priv owners simply have to first launch the Settings app, select the About Phone option there and then tap on the System Updates choice. After that is done, they can simply click on the Check for Updates option, and if there is one available, they can choose to download. Once the update has been downloaded, they can choose to restart and install the BlackBerry Priv to apply the changes of the new update.
