BlackBerry 'Rio': New touch smartphone to be revealed soon
Years after BlackBerry Ltd suffered a slump, the company is slowly trying to re-emerge in the market by revealing new products to keep up with the competition.
Last September, the Canadian mobile manufacturer came up with the impressive BlackBerry Passport, which is a square-shaped smartphone device that features the signature physical QWERTY keyboard that the company is known for.
BlackBerry will also be releasing a familiar looking device called BlackBerry Classic, a handphone that will have similar features to what previous BlackBerry fans were used to, but it will be given enhanced specs that can match the new releases from other mobile brands.
But the company is not stopping there. Over the weekend, Lucas Atkins from N4BB disclosed that the company is planning to unveil a new high-end touchscreen smartphone.
Atkins reported, "Today, I am happy to exclusively reveal BlackBerry is in fact working on a new high-end all-touch codenamed 'Rio.'"
This is not the first time that the Canadian company is coming up with an all-touch product. Previously, BlackBerry released the Z10, Z30, and Q5 smartphones, but these did not perform well in the market since consumers preferred to purchase smartphones from other brands.
However, BlackBerry will not give up just yet. The new BlackBerry Rio will be the company's newest entry to the touchscreen smartphone market to compete against current industry leaders like Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy.
New BlackBerry CEO John Chen had previously stated that the company has no plans of quitting the smartphone market. They are planning to make a strong presence in the coming year, as planned product releases have already been mapped out. The company is reportedly targeting the business sector with its new line of smartphone products.
The N4BB report did not offer further details about the upcoming BlackBerry Rio phone. The specs, pricing, as well as its final release date is still undisclosed as of the moment. But gadget watchers are hoping that it will be released sometime in 2015.
