"Blindspot" became a breakout hit for NBC when the show made its debut last September. The premiere was watched by more than 10 million viewers, and the rest of the season kept audiences riveted as amnesiac lead character Jane (Jamie Alexander) searched for clues leading to the truth about her identity.

In the midseason finale, Jane was able to find the woman who killed Patterson's (Ashley Johnson) boyfriend. Jane, who was being kept in a safe house by the FBI, found the courage to sneak out and kiss Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) before they were interrupted by his nephew. But Jane's happiness was temporary as she was kidnapped by CIA Deputy Director Carter's (Michael Gaston) associates and driven to a secluded warehouse, and tortured by Carter himself.

Later, she was shown a video of her past self where she said, "If you're watching this, the mission is going as planned." It was also revealed that the person who tattooed her body and wiped her memory was Jane herself.

Speaking with TVLine, series creator Martin Gero talked about how the fall finale revelation will affect Jane's work with the FBI and what this means for the series.

Gero said that he always planned to reveal the twist early.

"For me, my general frustration with shows like this is that they hold onto stuff for way too long," said Gero, adding that to have some kind of ending for the fall finale was important.

The show creator said that the revelation will impact Jane "in a huge way" and it will complicate her relationship with Weller and the rest of the team "in a really fun and beautiful way."

Another thing that would stand in the way of Jane and Weller's relationship is the reappearance of Oscar, Jane's former boyfriend. When asked whether a love triangle will be on the horizon for the three, Gero did not confirm nor deny but said that Oscar's arrival will "complicate things, certainly."
