Blood spots found on bath at Jersey care home

Specially-trained dogs have found blood spots on a bath at a former care home in Jersey which is at the centre of a child abuse inquiry, police said on Friday.

The stone bathtub is in an underground chamber which had been bricked up but has been dug out by police teams.

The spots, invisible to the naked eye, were found on Friday morning.

The discovery of the bath corroborated evidence given by people claiming they had been abused in the cellar.

Police have received a "huge amount" of calls about the case, with more than 160 people saying they had been abused at the Haut de la Garenne home.

Police have identified more than 40 suspects but have so far only charged one person in connection with the abuse inquiry.
