Reboots, revivals and reimagining of older movies and television shows continue to be a goldmine for TV networks. NBC has joined the race with reports that they are developing a TV series version of the surfing film, "Blue Crush."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the TV version of "Blue Crush" will be written and executive produced by Hannah Schneider who worked on the historical drama "Reign."

The "Blue Crush" reboot being developed by NBC is said to retain the original movie's premise and characters while fleshing out the story scope more in order to house the necessities of the seasonal form of a TV series.

Since "Blue Crush" is still in its development phase, there's no definite date yet for when the series will start filming or even air.

Unlike other movies or books that have been rebooted, "Blue Crush" didn't exactly crush the box office, only earning over $50 million. Movie critics had a lukewarm reception to the film and it has a 61 percent rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

"Blue Crush" was based on a magazine article titled "Life's Swell" written by Susan Orlean. The article was adapted into a movie by John Stockwell and Lizzy Weiss, who went to develop and create the TV series "Switched at Birth" which aired on Freeform

"Blue Crush" was set on the North Shore of Hawaii and focused on the story of Anne Marie, played by Kate Bosworth, a rising surfing star. Her future in the sport was derailed by a freak accident that nearly drowned her but thanks to the help of her best friends, played by Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake, Anne Marie decided to make a comeback.

The movie also had a direct-to-video sequel called "Blue Crush 2" which was received poorly by fans and critics. The second installment featured new characters and moved the surfing location to South Africa.
