"Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland" was originally set to release last year but this was pulled back when the film was given an NC-17 rating. The film has been edited and has been given a revised R-Rating, but according to a report from Enstarz, there is a possibility the movie won't ever release in theaters.

According to the report, the movie might instead be given a direct-to-video release. This would mean fans would have to either buy the DVD or Blu-Ray instead of heading to theaters to watch the film. It is also suggested that it might become available on streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon but not in theaters.

Many fans also speculate that this may occur given that the film has yet to be given a proper release date. The movie is currently slated for a 2016 release but no specific date has been attached, even when the first official clip was launched this past Jan. 5. 

The clip, which focuses on Thad (Alan Ritchson) entering his own amusement park, ended with the note that the film will release this year but the vagueness of the release window indicates that there may not be a specific release strategy for the film as of the time being.

It is also mentioned that the lack of an official full-length trailer is troublesome for the film's release. Trailers for comedies tend to release about a month or two prior to their theatrical release and with so little marketing for "Blue Mountain State," it is possible the film will release direct-to-video instead.

There's also very little known regarding the plot. What is known is that the film will focus on Thad as he deals with his choices in joining the NFL while Alex (Darin Brooks) and Sammy (Chris Romano) are now in their senior years. Beyond that, there is little known regarding the movie's story or characters.
