Boba Fett movie news update: 'Star Wars' spin-off back in development with working title 'Tin Can'

Details are scarce about Star Wars' long-planned Boba Fett movie, but the spin-off is reportedly still happening and is, in fact, already taking shape at Lucasfilm. A new report claims it is in active development with the working title of "Tin Can."

According to Omega Underground, it has no production date and director yet, but it will reportedly film at Pinewood Studios in England where several "Star Wars" films were previously shot. If accurate, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Kinberg, and Lawrence Kasdan are producing the project with the faux production company Stannum 50 Labs, which is a nod to Boba Fett's armor and its working title.

Lucasfilm has been trying to move forward with the spin-off for quite some time now. Back in 2015, it hired "Fantastic Four" director Josh Trank to helm the film, but he left the project even before it could get on its feet. The film was then shelved indefinitely.

The studio has yet to announce the spin-off, so it is best to take the latest report with a grain of salt. However, it is worth noting that the Boba Fett solo film is not the only anthology title on its slate. A much-clamored Obi-Wan Kenobi is apparently in development, too, although it has not been formally announced as well.

In a separate report, Omega Underground revealed it has a working title "Joshua Tree" and is set for an early 2019 production start.

Both the Kenobi and Boba Fett spin-offs are said to be a part of a 10-year plan Lucasfilm has been plotting to continue its popular space opera franchise beyond "Episode 9." Apart from these, there is a new trilogy in the works with "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson. According to Johnson, the future installments will step away from the Skywalker saga and feature new characters. All these have no release dates, though.

In the meantime, fans can watch the Skywalker saga continue with "The Last Jedi." The film, which premiered over the weekend to rave reviews, is set to hit theaters worldwide on Friday, Dec. 15.
