The announcement revealing the upcoming release of 'Boruto' the series on Shonen Jump.shonenjump.com

Good news for "Naruto" fans, Masashi Kishimoto will continue the highly popular manga franchise. But this time, Kishimoto will supervise the new series titled "Boruto" starring Naruto's son after the successful theatrical run of "Boruto: Naruto the Movie."

The announcement came after the countdown for the "Next Generation" concluded Saturday to reveal that the new manga will center on the adventures of Boruto.

Boruto Uzumaki is the son of Naruto and Hinata Hyuga. He got his father's short blond hair and bright blue eyes while he inherited the Gentle Fist technique from his mother. He also acquired his father's mischievous nature to get someone's attention.

Kishimoto will still be onboard the new series but will only serve as the supervisor for the project. It will use the art work drawn by "Naruto" assistant artist Mikio Ikemoto and will be written by Ukyō Kodachi.

There are no details yet regarding the plot of the upcoming "Boruto" manga series, but it is expected to feature the next generation character from "Naruto." This includes his sister Himawari, his teammate Mitsuki, as well as Sasuke and Sakura's daughter Sarada.

Kishimoto also revealed during the 17th annual Jump Festa anime and manga expo that he will publish another stand-alone spin-off story in Shonen Jump.

According to Movie News Guide, the soon-to-be-released manga will be published every month by Weekly Shonen Jump starting spring 2016.

The "Naruto" manga released the final issue of its 15-year run back in November 2014. The franchise released two blockbuster movies, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" in December 2014 and "Boruto: Naruto the Movie" that premiered in theaters in August 2015.

More details about the release date and plot of the upcoming "Boruto" manga series are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
