"Boruto: Naruto Next Generation" chapters 1 to 3 focused on Boruto and team Konohamaru as they take their Chunin exams. However, a report from Ecumenical News reveals that during the third round of the exams, Boruto will be caught cheating and in response, his father, Naruto the Seventh Hokage, will severely punish and humiliate him.

According to the report, Boruto will be caught using a Kote, a new kind of device that allows a user to perform all kinds of ninjutsu without having to consume any chakra. This technological device has been banned by Naruto as he believes they go against the tradition and training of a ninja. 

Because of Boruto's actions, it is stated Naruto will not keep the issue to themselves and instead will make it known to the entire village. This will humiliate Boruto in front of everyone and even make others look down on him as a failure or cheater. According to the report, this will make Boruto resent his father even more.

However, the punishment also goes beyond that and will affect Team Konohamaru. It is explained that Boruto will need to take leave and quit the team otherwise the team and all his allies will suffer the same fate as his. This means Boruto will have to officially drop out of the Chunin exams.

It is undetermined at this point how long Boruto will be disqualified or if he will be able to quickly redeem himself and finish the exams in order to officially become a recognized ninja.

Design and Trend reports that the chapter might eventually lead to a time skip, similar to the time gap between "Naruto" and "Naruto Shippuden." It is also hinted that before the story is over, both Sasuke and Naruto are likely to be killed off, making Boruto the true character in the sequel series.
