"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" has reportedly earned over $16.8 million since its premiere in Japan last Aug. 7. This makes it the most financially successful film in the "Naruto" franchise and it may seem like a good move for the studios to move forward with a sequel. However, this may not be the case. 

Series creator Masashi Kishimoto has explained in a report from Anime News Network that he will be resting from the strain of working on "Naruto" and will now move forward with his new series. However, the new series will not be published weekly as "Naruto" was because of the muscle strain in producing new issues on a weekly basis. 

"I've already decided what I'm going to write about in my next work," the series creator explained. "I'm thinking of writing a science-fiction work. I've already finalized the character designs. I think the protagonist is one that hasn't been seen before in manga, and while it's me saying it, I think that the character is done very well." 

Kishimoto had officially ended the "Naruto" manga after 15 years of continuous serialization, with several spin-off titles such as "Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring." He also served as the chief production supervisor for "Boruto: Naruto the Movie." 

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" will officially hit select U.S. theaters starting Oct. 10 and Anime News Network has an official list of theaters where the film will be shown. Bootleg versions of the film have managed to surface online but despite this, the film remains to be a financial juggernaut, beating the $16 million earned by "The Last: Naruto the Movie" during its Japanese run. 

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" concludes the series as it focuses on Naruto's son Boruto (Bolt in the English dub) and Sasuke's daughter Sarada as they graduate from the academy and become full-fledged ninjas.
