Boston Celtics rumors 2016: Head coach Brad Stevens criticizes self after defeat versus Nets

There is no doubt that the Boston Celtics are legitimate threats to any team this 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season, but following a tough defeat to the Brooklyn Nets last Saturday, head coach Brad Stevens took time to assess himself.

"I just need to do a better job," Stevens said, according to ESPN after falling to the Nets at the TD Garden.

Boston's defeat to Brooklyn was the second consecutive in the team's home court. Before that, it also lost to the Los Angeles Lakers, in Kobe Bryant's final road game in the city, last Wednesday.

"I mean, this is more on me. We've had multiple times where we're just not playing to the standard we need to play to," Stevens continued.

He also added, "We've had multiple practices where certain guys have really looked good and stood out because others haven't. And that's just bad coaching. I'll get myself straightened out and I'll work on what needs to be changed."

Stevens, 39, started coaching the Celtics in 2013 and last season guided the team to a seventh-seed finish in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Celtics were unable to make it past the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round as they were swept, but Stevens' job as head coach was recognized as he became one of the candidates for Coach of the Year honors.

This season, Stevens is doing a great job of continually guiding the young Celtics but so far, there have been inconsistencies, with the team having an 18–15 record for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Despite Stevens taking the blame, returning Celtics point guard Marcus Smart believes the head coach just cares too much and said it is their (players) fault since they are the ones playing.

Stevens and the Celtics can bounce back and avenge Saturday's defeat when they play the Nets again today, Monday, but on the road this time.
