The Boston Celtics expressed interest in the Houston Rockets' Dwight Howard, but it shows that they were not ready to give too much in order to make the potential deal happen. 

Earlier reports stated that the Celtics inquired about Howard, who was in the trade rumor mill because he was reportedly dissatisfied with his situation in Houston. 

But in a report by Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports, he mentioned why the trade between the Celtics and Rockets is not turning to reality. 

"Howard won't be going to Boston, league sources told The Vertical, and the reason is simple: The asking price is just too steep," Mannix wrote in his report. 

He added that Boston wants Howard, but it is not willing to let go of valuable assets including the Brooklyn Nets' first-round draft pick. 

Mannix also reported that the C's are still aiming to add a big man, but it would not be the former All-Star center. 

The Celtics continue to thrive this season and are looking like legitimate contenders again, recently edging the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and are currently on a four-game winning streak. 

Howard's possible addition to Boston adds veteran experience and presence in the paint for a resurging franchise that has a young core. 

But with the rumored trade deal not happening, Boston has to rely on its young lineup of centers featuring Jared Sullinger (23), Kelly Olynyk (24), and Tyler Zeller (26). 

Meanwhile, Howard is expected to stay with the Rockets since following the 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, he still has a year left in his existing pact. 

However, in the contract, there is an opt-out option for the 30-year-old center after this season, which means he may test the free agency market or renegotiate a much lucrative deal with the franchise if he chooses to exercise the option.
