According to reports, the Boston Red Sox are hoping to acquire Chicago White Sox's first baseman. The Cuban professional baseman has been playing for the Chicago White Sox since 2014.

There are still no further details indicating a done deal between the Red Sox and Abreu. The trade rumor has been confirmed by FanRag's writer Jon Heyman through Twitter. The writer posted, "Chisox have been in active talks with red sox and others on star 1B Jose Abreu. Boston was 1 of 4 finalists for Abreu when he signed with Chicago (Milwaukee & Houston were the others)."

The 30-year-old player inked a six-year contract with the White Sox for $68 million. There are still no updates on how much the Red Sox is offering Abreu and for how long.

The Red Sox ended the 2017 Major League Baseball season as the number 1 team in the American League East with 93 wins and 69 losses. The White Sox, on the other hand, finished third in the American League Central with 67 victories and 95 defeats.

In 2017, Abreu played a total of 156 games and had 33 home runs 621 at bats, 95 runs, 189 hits, 102 runs batted in, and his AVG was .304. Abreu ended 2017 much better compared to 2016 with only 293 ACG.

The Red Sox are hoping for a great comeback after losing to the Houston Astros 8 to 2 during the American League Division Series. The Astros are also the 2017 champions after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series with the final standing of 4 – 3.

There are no new reports about other teams who are looking to sign Abreu other than the Red Sox. The 2018 Major League Baseball season will commence on Mar. 29. The Opening Day will be composed of eight divisional matchups.
