Fans of Jason Bourne will be glad to know that filming for "Bourne 5" is currently underway. The untitled fifth "Bourne" film will see the return of Matt Damon as the titular character and all his glory.

Damon last starred as Jason Bourne in "The Bourne Ultimatum" in 2007, and by the time "Bourne 5" gets released in July 2017, it will have been a decade-long wait. "The Bourne Legacy" (2012), the fourth installation in the "Bourne" franchise, saw Jeremy Renner as the protagonist, Aaron Cross.

And since it's the season of giving, Damon has decided to give fans a gift in the form of a movie update. He sat down with Variety recently to talk about another film of his titled "The Martian." The Academy Award winner explained that they are halfway done with production for "Bourne 5."

Damon also teased the plot of the upcoming "Bourne" film, saying:

"Yeah. Because you'll find the character — like 'The Bourne Ultimatum,' the third act actually in the movie dovetails with the third act of 'The Bourne Supremacy.' So technically when the Bourne character disappears, it's still 2004. So when this next one comes out in '16, it will have been 12 years — in movie years — that the character as been off the grid. So what's happened in those intervening years gives you a story."

In addition to that, the 45-year-old actor also revealed filming locations--from Tenerife to England, and even a week in Berlin. And it seems like "Bourne 5," like any fan would expect, is going to be action-packed, as Damon also divulged that there's going to be a car chase along the Las Vegas strip.

The fifth installation is looking very promising and fans are undoubtedly excited to see Damon as Jason Bourne on the big screen again. Joining him are Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel.

"Bourne 5" is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 15, 2016.
