Another boxer is calling out the number one pound-for-pound Floyd Mayweather Jr. as Jermell Charlo, following his sixth-round technical knockout (TKO) win over former champion Joachim Alcine, expressed his desire to have the World Boxing Council (WBC) title currently held by Mayweather. 

In the win over Alcine last Saturday, Charlo displayed his elusiveness and accuracy to capture his first victory under new trainer Derrick James and improve his record to 27–0 with 12 knockouts (KO). 

In a report by ESPN, the stats provided by CompuBox showed that the 25-year-old landed 110 of 233 total punches thrown (47 percent) while the veteran Alcine (35–7-2, 21 KOs) only succeeded in 22 of 157 total punches thrown (14 percent). 

Following the victory, Charlo said, according to ESPN, that he was on a different level than the 39-year-old former champion, also stating, "It's a new generation. It's a different genre of boxing."

After this, he mentioned Mayweather who retired last September following his win over Andre Berto to end his career at 49–0. 

"Next for me is the WBC. Right now, Floyd Mayweather holds the title at the WBC. I'm ranked No. 1 in it. If Floyd don't want to get rid of the titles, I'm here," Charlo exclaimed. 

Charlo then said he respects Mayweather and what he has done for the sport, but if "Money" does not want to vacate the title then he would love to fight him. 

In a report by Boxing News 24, Charlo also mentioned his intentions of fighting John Jackson (20–2, 15 KOs) and would want to do it next month if it will be possible. 

According to Boxing News 24, Charlo defeating Jackson will assure him a shot at the WBC junior middleweight title. 

The report added that WBC "seems reluctant" to take away the belt from Mayweather because the latter might stage a comeback in 2016. 

Mayweather already declared his retirement following the win over Berto and recently shot down rumors that his camp is having negotiations with Manny Pacquaio's side for a possible rematch next year.
