Miguel Cotto plans to fight either in May or June of this year but seems to be weighing his options for now.

This was revealed by his lawyer Gabriel Penagaricano in a report from boxingscene.com who added that they are currently in talks with several opponents. Unfortunately he did not mention who the potential opponents would be.

Cotto's name has been mentioned as one of the alternative opponents for Floyd Mayweather Jr. this May. But this will only happen depending on Mayweather's next move.

At the moment, Mayweather is in the middle of talks with Manny Pacquiao and his camp. However, there has been no new development heading into the middle of February.

On their end, Penagaricano has kept back on revealing potential names that Cotto could be facing. But some believe that among those names include Mayweather in case the undefeated boxer fails to strike a deal against the Filipino fighter.

There were plans for Cotto to face off Canelo Alvarez. However, negotiations failed to pull through as Cotto preferred a higher profile match, indirectly pointing to a potential rematch with Mayweather.

Aside from that speculation however, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has mentioned potential foes for Cotto. They are Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley, two fighters that Manny Pacquiao had fought before.

As Cotto's next opponent continues to remain a mystery, Penagaricano says that Cotto will be ready, emphasizing that there will still be time for him to prepare for a fight either in May or June.

Though the actual date, time and place have yet to be settled, there is one date that would be perfect for Cotto's next fight, June 13. The date is the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Period which, according to Penagaricano, would be perfect for Cotto's return to the ring.
