Danny Garcia outpointed Robert Guerrero, winning via unanimous decision to snag the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight belt formerly belonging to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

All judges scored in favor of Garcia with similar score cards (116–112), allowing him to keep his unblemished record at 32–0. The fierce exchange drew chants from the people on hand, particularly in the last round; but in the end, Garcia reigned superior.

With the belt wrapped around his waist, Amir Khan is waiting in the wings. Khan was named the mandatory challenger by the WBC, although there are other names still in the mix.

A possibility of a rematch with Guerrero as well as Kell Brook was mentioned. Keith Thurman, who was doing commentary, seemed to be interested in the belt as well. Whoever it is, Garcia will be ready.

"I want to fight the best," says Garcia, according to The National. "Danny Garcia never ducked anybody."

Mayweather was incidentally at ringside for the bout, but made it clear that he doesn't have any urge to get back into the ring at this point. Right now, the flamboyant one is fine with his stature as he focuses on Mayweather Promotions to develop young and possible upcoming fighters.

Incidentally, a fight with Khan could prove interesting. Garcia defeated Khan via total knockout (TKO) back in May 2014, so booking the fight could have an interesting angle.

However, that rematch could take a back seat with reports from Sky Sports that the recently crowned WBC champion is not interested in fighting Khan.

Rather, he seems to be more inclined to face Brook, although it remains to be seen if the Briton would fly all the way across the Atlantic to face the American boxer.

However, Garcia will have to face Khan, being the mandatory challenger, at some point as long as he is champion. It could happen after his first title defense, assuming he opts to face another fighter other than the British southpaw.
