Boxing rumors: Kell Brook eyes Gennady Golovkin to upstage Amir Khan [VIDEO]

Kell Brook is obviously upset with his possible mega fight with Amir Khan out of the way.

All that came about when it was recently announced the Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez would be facing Khan this May, dousing any plans of a possible June fight between the two countrymen at the Wembley Stadium.

Miffed at the move, Eddie Hearn reveals that Brook wanted to upstage Khan with a big fight of his own via IFL.TV; and the boxer he wants to face is Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin but at 155 pounds.

Ironically, Golovkin is the same guy Alvarez is supposed to face after that May fight with Khan. Triple G is the mandatory challenger of the World Boxing Council (WBC), although the catchweight issue has yet to be resolved.

Golovkin and Alvarez could be fighting in the fall if both sides come to an agreement; and if that happens, one has to wonder when a fight between Brook and Golovkin could take place if it is to be done in 2016.

Brook will be defending his International Boxing Federation (IBF) title against Kevin Bizier this March in Sheffield. From there, it was supposed to be the one against Khan. With Khan out, it will be interesting to see whom he faces next.

Golovkin is not an option since the Kazakh champion will be fighting against Dominic Wade this April. That makes it too close to call.

Before looking at it that far, there is also the issue of interest on the part of the Golovkin camp. Brook is not necessarily one of the big fighters right now and is technically on the rise.

Golovkin is considered the same, although obviously ahead. Against Golovkin, Brook doesn't have good chances and may, in fact, be taking a big risk.

Hearn says that Brook sounded serious about it, although it could be a result of frustration. If it does happen, Brook will need to find a way to frustrate Golovkin who seems dangerous with his power punches and knack for going on the offensive.
