'Broken Age: Act 2' release date set for early 2015

"Broken Age: Act 2" bound for release in early 2015.Double Fine Studios

Good news for "Broken Age" fans, game developer Greg Rice of Double Fine confirmed in a blog post that "Act 2" of the game is headed for release early next year. He added that the team will begin testing soon as the game is close to completion.

"The team has been steadily growing in size over the past month and progress is being made really rapidly now. The key milestone being that just last week we hit Alpha on both Shay and Vella's halves of Act 2, leaving just the big finale section until we can say the entirety of Act 2 is at Alpha!" IGN quoted Rice.

Everyone in the studio is reportedly working toward the completion of the game. Thus, almost the entirety of the game is in Alpha state. The studio aims to wrap up and be ready for testing by the end of the year. The developer added that based on the tests, "Broken Age: Act 2" will take eight to 12 hours of gameplay.

The game received fair comments from reviewers who said that it exceeded gamers' expectations.

Kickstarter funds controversy

The "Broken Age" adventure game came into fruition with the aid of a Kickstarter fund. Double Fine Studios earned $3.4 million through its campaign for its development. "Broken Age" was supposed to be a single release game, but the developers decided to slightly stagger the release by splitting it in half.

"Act 1" was released in January for PC, and the iPad version was rolled out in June. According to Double Fine, it needed more money to finish the second half of the game and the sales from the first "Act" will be added to the development of the second part. This caused an uproar from gamers since the studio exceeded its original $400,000 goal eight-fold.
